Beyond The Classroom
Learning that starts with the reef, the forest, the food and the songs of Karimunjawa itself.
Beyond The Classroom is our umbrella for everything that happens outside our four walls: beach clean-ups, mangrove planting, cooking with local ingredients, storytelling nights, eco-printing, cultural evenings and creative workshops.
These programs run all year, weekly or monthly, and are open to the whole community, Kejora children, their families, and curious visitors to the island.
Environmental education
Beach clean-and-learn mornings, mangrove replanting days, and hands-on lessons on where the plastic on our beaches comes from, and where it should go instead.
Cultural nights
Every Saturday, families gather at the basecamp for music, dance, food and stories. It is a small but important way of keeping the culture of the island alive in the next generation.
Creative workshops
From the EcoPrint Workshop every Wednesday to art and storytelling sessions, we make space for children and mothers on the island to make things with their hands.
