At 07:30 the first children start arriving at the basecamp, some on the back of a motorbike, some walking hand-in-hand with a grandmother. By 08:00 the morning circle has already started.

"The best learning happens in the twenty minutes before we officially begin, when children are playing, negotiating, asking questions."

Morning circle

Songs in Indonesian and English, a weather check, a story from the teacher. Then children scatter into the corners of the room, painting, blocks, sensory bins, a quiet reading nook.

Outdoor time

Every day includes real time outside, in the garden, on the beach a short walk away, or under the trees at the basecamp. Snacks are usually something we grew ourselves.

The walk home

By 11:30 the children are gathering their things. Parents wait at the gate, and the conversation continues all the way home.
